Good at what :D
-
mechanics .... not on here for a fella mate!!!
-
I'm in Corby though I only have tools for medium-ish sized jobs. Even then, I'm only just getting to grips with Diesel engines. Anything needing a proper engineering firms attention and it is no go.
-
Where are you and whats your problem mate?
-
in wellingborough mate, my problem is the car is overheating,
so far i have,
done a coolant change (including fan on full)
took the scuttal off to check the HBV which seems in order
there are no leaks on the coolant is not dropping.
both top pipes are hot so dont think its the thermostat
just dont have either mega pennies or anything else i think i should check
-
Try back flushing radiator mate. You may need new radiator.
Assume you refilled with heater on max and fans on to shift air.
-
Lol, I've got that snag and I've changed just about everything you can bar a new rad which looks in good nick.
It is certainly a PITA.

yeah refilled with the fans on, although i put the header cap back on the coolant.... not sure if that was right.
also is there a seperate cap for the radiator or is it all done through the coolant tank ?
is there any signs to look for on the radiator

if you could update your avatar so it does't cover your post, i might be able to help ;D

hows that tunnie

Should run for a while with header cap off - and squeeze hoses to expell air.
No cap on rad - only on header tank.
-
Thats much better :y
So whats it showing on the dash? Is it over pressurizing?
-
nothing on the computer, the temp gauge will sit at just below 90 degrees then it will shoot in to 100 in the matter of minutes... fans kick in and will sit below 100 and stay there. although the fans inside the car will blow cold but i have no hot air just not sure what else there is to try

Suggests HBV is not functioning as it should, as that should shunt hot water into the heater matrix
-
i checked the hbv, couldnt see any signs of damage or leaks. is it a matter of taking it completly out and just replacing it ? ?
or is it a part you can clean up and re-use ?
-
Are the 2 rubber pipes that lead to and from the HBV to the heater matrix getting hot?
-
one of the pipes, the vacum pipe isnt getting hot but the hose going into it is.

Just to the left of the HBV 2 pipes go into the bulkhead, check if they both get hot.
-
ok will check them in the morning its to dark now, i take it that they should be hot then ? if there not does that mean the HBV might be shot ?
-
I had a similar problem a while ago on an MV6. I removed the hoses and flushed the heater matrix until the water ran clear.

do you mean remove the pipes to the right of the HBV you removed ?
-
Just to add, if the heater matrix is bunged up then the cooling system has been neglected. I would remove the radiator and fill it with Fernox (central heating cleaner) and leave it over night, then flush it with water :y

The 2 pipes to the left of the HBV, the ones that go into the bulkhead.
-
when you say remove do you mean remove from the bulk head and let it drain onto the floor ? then re connect aand refill ?

If you follow this guide to remove the pipes
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1185891036
once you've got them off push a garden hose onto the top pipe and flush until the water runs clear then do the same with the bottom pipe, then reconnect the hoses, refill the cooling system and run the engine with the filler cap off, heater on hot and squeeze the radiator hoses to shift any air, oh and make sure the car is on the level ;)
-
thanks elite, last question the garden hoses to i put it into the pipes i have disconnected on into the bulkhead where the pipes were

The 2 alloy pipes coming out of the bulkhead :y
-
ok will do it in the morning - so basicall where the pipe was i put the hose pipe and flush it until the water runs clear ..is that right

Yep :)

pete you are a legend, thanks for you patience
is there a particular coolant flush you recommend

Try some Holts speedflush, its about a fiver from Halfords. I always use lots of water and them remove the rad and fill it with Fernox which is for household central heating systems but I wouldn't use it in an engine
-
is the red removal quite a straigh forward job, ie can i do it on my own or will i need an extra pair of hands

Its just a bit fiddly but easy enough to do.
