Ok, this is starting to annoy me now.

Ive noticed a lately that my 3.0 is sometimes running at 95 degrees but mostly running at 98. Ive changed the rad fan switch for a replacement and that has made no difference.

I sat listening to it warming up over the weekend and it appears that the fans are not always going onto second speed. You can hear them kick in at 95 however they dont appear to go on to fast speed when the engine is put under strain.

Are the fans controlled by a relay or just by a fuse. Also what causes the fans to cut into second speed???..... is it the fan swtich, the thermostat or something else??

I didn't know there was a second speed! :-?
There is one small fan that should come on at 97c and the big one when the air temp reaches a certain value (don't know what that point is), but if the fans are keeping it below 100c at all times, there is nothing wrong. The thermostat only opens at 92c and fully open at 107c !!! So its a very hot thermostat!

No your model there should 'three' fans, one just in front of the engine, two more just behind the grill infront of the aircon rad. The engine fan engages at 97degs (2.5/3.0 petrol) on low speed, the two front fans should always run at low with the aircon on, if the temp goes above 100deg all fans run on high.
If this happens you have a overheating problem.

Yes mine has one large fan on the front of the radiator and two fans on the air con radiator. The twin fans come on when the air con is engaged and I know the large fan comes on at 95/96 degrees when I first let it get up to temp. However it then appears to go up to 98 when driving and I was wondering if this is because the fans are dual speed and only the slow was working.

Mine was occasionally running hot, fine at speed but hot around town. Once it got hot it took ages to come back down. Finally traced it to a corroded terminal on the fan switch, half way down near side of rad. Not the one at the top. After putting it back together  the fans now come on high when it giets hot and cools the temp down quickly.
Not sure what the switch/sensor is actually for but seemed to fix my problem.

Oops oh yeah, forgot about the air con fan! :-[ Well I have learned something new today, the fans have 2 speeds! :)
