Get an aircon specialist to look at it - the Halfords kit is crap

I guess the prices vary, but you should get something decent for about 50 GBP. I do not know any addresses, but am sure you'll have more answers soon  :y

Cheers

Had the same thing on mine about 18 months ago, Does the air con compressor start when you switch on the air con, if it does as mine did then check the flap operation in the car, i found that when i switched the climate to cold it would only blow hot, it turned out to be a failed flap servo (It opens and closes the vent flaps in the car).
It was stuck on hot air circulation.
The servos are under the centre console at the front on either side of the footwells, not easy to get to but when you remove the lower trim you will see the small servos attached by ball joints to plastic arms, the arms push the flaps, the ball joints are what fail, thus not opening/closing the flaps. (try operating different vents as you watch the various servos, as said its not easy, ask the other half to help) ;D
The above is for the facelift Omega (climate control), i am not sure if the servo set up is the same on pre facelift. I am almost sure there is a topic on the air con servos in the tech side of the forum. :y
Hope this helps

Normally mate on any car i have had,the rpm should rise when switching on the air con.

First start the car and let the idle speed settle to normal , then when you turn the aircon on the idle speed will dip slightly then settle again to normal. This will indicate if the compressor is engaging. This will tell you that you have some pressure in the system, if there is no pressure in the system the compressor will not even engage. The air con will need a proper service and the halfords stuff is about as usefull as a chocolate teapot. :y

What part of the coutry are you in Ryan?

I had mine re-gassed for £49-95 down here in Kent as a guide for you.  That included checking the system still had gas in it (no leaks), re-gas, and full check of the system ;) ;)

Well Ryan my advise is you take it to a specialist auto air-con firm, and no doubt you will have plenty listed in your local telephone directories.  They will quickly be able to check your system for leaks, and re-gas if none are found or advise on what repair work may be necessary. ;) ;)

Over the years I have found this the most satisfactory route to go down 8-) 8-)

To check out compressor remove elec plug.  Put 12v from battery across terminals on compressor (maintaining correct polarity) - if compressor ok you will hear a clunk as cluch kicks in.  No sound a/c compressor breaked.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like your compressor is not switching on, poss low pressure in the system, to check if you have pressure find one of the air con filling points near the plenium and remove the cap, you will find a tyre type valve, give it a quick press and listen for gas pressure escaping, if good then the compressor is either not getting power or the compressor is seized.  check air con fuse first.

Just bare in mind there's a £20,000 fine for knowingly releasing refrigeration gas to the atmosphere.
I have a problem with my a/c system.  I suspect it's a compressor issue as I had it pressure checked and it was fully charged.
I asked the techie doing the check about the fine, as I thought it was £30k, but it's actually £20k.

Just passing on what I was advised by an aircon techie.
He said the same about being able to do a quick check that way, which is how we got onto the subject of the fine. His words were "F.F.S don't get caught !!".
Apparently with all this Global Warming malarky they are well up for making an example of anyone breaking eco laws.
