Title: Jack point cover

The jack point cover has a retaining wire or string attached to it. Is the purpose of this purely to stop yourself from loosing it in the event that you have removed it to jack your car up?

Does it serve any other purpose?

It's only to keep it hanging. It's obvious that without the string it would be laid on the ground and after job well done the cover will still be on the ground and will get driven over...  :)
