Title: Coolant light
Post by: hollywood on 20 August 2009, 17:16:32
I read a long time ago about cleaning something if you had the coolant light on. I cant find that post again =(.

My coolant level is fine, but the light is still on showing its low.
Anyone remember what it is you can do about it?
thanks,
Dave

The level sensor is integral to the header tank and can't really be removed by itself for cleaning. I had limited success by soaking the whole ting in a bucket of caustic solution. The only real cure is a shiney new header tank ...... in the UK they're around £35

The sensor at the bottom of the header tank is removable, flat head screw driver will help. But can often break. Sounds like replacement sensor is needed. Something that small should be cheap enough to send to the states.

Fitting a replacement sensor on its own is easy, if the sensor can be removed without damage that can be sent. Without tank attached.

thanks for the help and the offers. I however have another car that doesnt have that light on that im using for parts. I just thought it was a cleanup fix. I guess ill try to remove the sensor off that one and put it on mine.

Just swap the complete header tank, it's only a clip on the wing (fender? :-/) and a couple of hoses.  :y :y
