Title: 1999 2.0 16v CDX Auto Warning issues please help
Post by: shorty on 18 August 2009, 13:19:44
Hi Guys would love some advice. A while back I had an automatic gearbox warning appear which turned out to disapear when the battery was changed. since the car has passed an mot and was advised that the cat and downpipe would need replacing at some point. Now although the car runs it has the managment light on all the time and will give me warnings of 'coolant level' and 'brake light warning' It will also stall from time to time. Although these warnings appear the brake lights work and the coolant level is fine. A couple of times whilst driving the tacho started going mad and the car cut out it then run fine when restarted although this hasnt occoured for a while. BTW it a 99 2.0 16v auto saloon with 104k on clock.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Regards Shorty :) :o

Coolant level warning if the level is fine means the sensor in coolant tank is dead, so forget about it.
Not sure about brakelight check
If newer migs this warning appears when you start the car but goes away as soon as you press the brake.
Don't know about the stalling issue but someone will come along soon probably.
You can check the codes in the maintenance section I believe

Coolant level warning, if the level is fine, is a new coolant bottle (about £30 from Vx).

Brakelight check, if both the bulbs work and you still get the warning, go and buy 2 new, branded (ring or such like) bulbs. The brakelight checkker doesn't like cheap bulbs!

As for the cutting out, do the paperclip test (see my signature below) and report back any codes. On an X20XEV most likely needs the IACV cleaning :y
