Title: Starting from cold
Post by: Erzy on 27 July 2009, 07:13:46
Is there anyone remotely near the Hull area who could look over my 2.2 for some serious beer tokens. Idles too high on start up then sounds loud for a few minutes until warm then everything is fine, if you stick it in D while still cool it struggles not to stall. Had it in two garage but they dont know and there was no codes, also sailed through MOT but I maintain it sounds ruff cold. >:(

I am not an expert but that sounds similar to the problems I have had in recent weeks apart from it sounding loud. The MAF was my problem. But you would expect it to bring on the EML if it was.

Could it be the throttle body making the noise, like I say the revs are only high when starting from cold. No garage seems to want to help!!!  Any OOFers out there fancy the job. ;)

Cheers richardirv, I'll see if he checks in on this thread. You say yours was sorted by changing the MAF - but your engine did'nt sound noisy at all ?

Yeah, when I had a MAF on that was not working right, I had major troubles when starting cold in a morning, it always started fine but after a few seconds the idle would go up and down then get much worse when put into D and was like trying to stall, and if revved a few times, it then seemed ok. I'm not saying this is the same problem exactly but I changed the throttle body after the error codes pointed me in that direction when it was actually the MAF at fault. Don't forget mine is a v6 too so that might change things.

I also noticed when I had a MAF on that didn't work at all, the idle would be high for a few seconds just after starting.

Check out the Thread "Broken down" it might help.
