Hello again
i may be being thick here / or missing somthing
there is a small electric water pump what circulates water around the heater matrix when the engine is off how does that work then ?
the motor does run when conected to an external 12v

As you say, it runs, along with fans, to dissipate hot spots in the engine when you stop the engine after prolonged/heavy use generally when ambient temp is high.

Different pumps  ;). The pump I described lives by the rad, your's is on the driver's side inner wing.

Ahh right ……so back to question 1 then what buttons knobs to I have to turn to get that 1 to run ? :-/

Page 131 in the users manual says:
Residual heat system - When the vehicle is stopped and the ignition off, the heat still in the cooling system can be used to heat the passenger compartment, for example when stopped at a rail crossing.
Press AUTO with the ignition off. (on the climate control panel)

The pump switches off if you turn on the ignition, press OFF or when the heat runs out.
