Title: Omegs CD 2.5TD (BMW Engine)
Post by: jonathan1davies on 25 August 2009, 16:58:36
Hi,

New here so Hi, and hope I am posting in right place. I bought 2 weeks ago an R reg Omega CD 2.5 TD Automatic, with the BMW Engine. It broke down about 2 days ago, and turned out it was a fuel fault. RAC told me the sensors will sometimes not work when the fuel gets low. Put diesel in and it worked. I have now noticed when idle the car "shakes" until the revs are higher. I am thinking that some crap from fuel tank is in the system causing this. I was anyway going to chane the fuel filter and chnage the oil and filter. I was going to get a Haynes Manual, but they do not have one for this model of the Omega. Can anyone help with either suggestions of the problem, and also how to change the fuel filter and oil and filter? Is there another manual like haynes?

Thanks for any help

Jonathan

First thing really is to change the fuel filter. It's located on the OS (left as you view from the front) inner wing.
It's got 2 fuel lines and unions going to it. Best method I found is  to remove it completly including bracket from the wing, after removing any fuel lines and electric conn.
Get a new filter and fill it with Comma Diesel Magic (Halfords) refit and fire her up.
If this doesn't clear the fault then it may be in crap in the tank, don't let it get low on fuel.....ie warning light coming on.
This is the easy one to start with, bit more involved in the if it's blocked elsewhere with crap.

Yes, read Platty's "How to". It will give you a lot of peace of mind having seen the bottom of the tank.  Good luck.

Worth checking the in-tank lift pump first, before replacing fuel filter.(right side of boot, under carpet, remove plate with 4 screws)
I took the whole thing out and found it was full of crap, even inside the filter on the end of the pump motor, the motor was also clogged up.. and dead.(tested with 12v)
I cleaned it all out including tank(drained, cleaned, fresh fuel.)replaced pump/motor too.
The main fuel line draws diesel from tank-through the pump (even when the motor stops)-to fuel filter-to injection pump,so start from the beginning-Clean it all out.
You could listen for the pump to see if its working for a few seconds when you switch ignition on.
