Hi all the temp on my dads miggy aint working.Iv looked at all the wires and they all look ok.Can anyone tell me what it could be
-
the external temp?
probably the sensor itself.
only £6 for a new one, on the front bumper
-
No sorry the temp guage inside the car
-
in that case, is the wire still attached to the sensor,
what engine is it? there are a few sensors iirc
-
its a 2.0 16v engine.Could it be the sensor on the rad
-
The Rad sensor is easy to change, and available from every scrappy. That is where I would start. Could be something else though, do all the other instruments work? ::)
-
yeh just not the incar temp guage
-
We need to tie down whats not working....
Outside air temperature information on the in car display?
Engine operating temp guage on the dashboard?
Internal cabin heating?
Best clarify before we start guessing.... :y
-
Everything works spot on apart for the engine temp guage
-
No 1 suspect is the single wire that clips on (sideways) to the temperature sender on the coolant bridge.
-
Could be thermostat stuck open?
-
Its got a brand new thermostat fitted.Where is this single where too then
-
As Andy H says. To test the gauge, find the temp sensor, take the single wire off it and touch it to ground/earth/zero volts/whatever-you-want-to-call-it and your gauge should go all the way to HOT!
Go from there. :y

I believe the problem is the wire has come of the temp sensor. I think the position of this sensor is like on my car, at the back of the engine close to egr valve. The same thing happened to me when the mechanic was replacing the head gasket (wire poped of)

Sorry about the quality of the picture but it is the only one I could find where you could see the sensor.
