Hi all,
It's coming up to cambelt time - the local small garage I normally use for servicing won't touch it as they have had bad experiences with the tensioner going shortly after replacement of both the belt and tensioner (anyone else know about this?) - A fairly local VX garage is quoting me £360 all in - which I am going for - does that sound reasonable for a 2.6? (they reckon 4 hours labour)
Cheers

When Marks DTM did mine, from bonnet up to bonnet down was about 1.5hrs.
And that was with a brew :y :y

It is a very good price but get the water pump replaced at the same time ;)
-
They charge for 4 hours, it takes no longer than 2.
I paid £230.00 for new belt & tensioner and water pump all Vauxhall parts.

Sounds like they might be drinking a few cuppas then :)

Incompitent garage then....avoid.
I bet they dont use the proper locking kit

I'm with Marks DTM Calib with this, its more likely incorrect fitting than faulty components, which I guess is likely substainiated by the fact that their supplier obviously wouldn't take responsibility for faulty part ;)
-
Recent cambelt/tensioners/waterpump change cost me £190 including the £140 of parts :y
Drive your car over here...get it done here...swap the tyres while your at it and same some cash too lol

That would make sense... There would be a lot of angry V6 owners about if the parts were not up to scratch :-? - I guess they won't see many Omegas, so won't be tooled up...

That is a good price... even with the cost of petrol that would be a good saving...

If they were prepared to bodge that job because they didn't know what they were doing, I'm not sure I'd want to use them for anything :o

Oh and that was on the 53 plate Zafira...parts were more expensive than the v6 Omega and takes 3 hours rather than about 2 on the Omega...

My dealer had a problem with a bolt that snapped on tensioner just after I left garage after cam belt change and they had to put new engine in my 3.2 - this was last October. Dispute between VX and dealer never resolved - bolt was sent to metallurgist for exam but never had feedback. Popular opinion on OOF was over tightening but just shows what you are up against. Thankfully I did not have to pay a penny and they gave me a hire car for 2/3 weeks for new engine delivery and fit

That's a good point... if it all goes wrong on a 7 year old car you could end up stuck between a rock & a hard place.. :)

Tough one this. A local independant quoted me £450.
However, the Vx dealer SHOULD be using the right tools and his work should also be warranted - so there should be comeback if things dont go well.
Suggest a call to Vauxhall customer assistance in Luton for their position on warranted work.
