Title: VALVE INSTALL
Post by: chrisomega on 03 September 2009, 11:03:15
I've taken the valve keepers off the valves to replace the valve stems. Now I can't get them back on. I have tried the lisle tool and that hasn't worked. Does anyone have a more creative way to get the keepers back on without removing the heads?

only way i can think of is to use 2 people
use an angle screw driver to hold the valve up through the spark plug hole and try to compress the spring to get the collets on
but saying that i dont like the chances of compressing it far enough to succeed
the only tool i can think of to compress the spring far enough would be a ball joint splitter and brute force

You need a spring compressor.......then I use a small screw driver with a lightly magnetised end......stick the collet to it with a dab of grease on the inner ribbed area and press onto the top of the valve (the grease makes it stick)

I am trying to keep the heads on the car. A compressor won't work will it? I just can't visualize the compressor working with the heads still on the car. can you further explain marks dtm calib?
