Been noticing that in hot weather I turn the ignition key and the starter doesn't kick in as it does when cold. ie. a bit reluctant. Only seems to happen when the car has been in the sun all day and the inside is hot. I suspect the ignition barrel, something expanding? The car wouldn't turn over at all when I tried to leave work today. However, turned the key on and off a couple of times and eventually the starter kicked in. Anybody any ideas?

It could be the switch contacts on the back of the switch they do fail :y

I've got the same problem(turn key and nothing, turn again and it starts)but does it at anytime although i recently changed my column to an adjustable type and it didn't do it for a few days so though I'd cured it but has started doing it again now so if you find the problem please give me a heads up :y

I'll check the battery first, tho there seems to be plenty of juice when the starter finally kicks in.
Regarding the switch contacts, what would I need to do to overhaul them?

had the same sort of problem and it turned out the be the starter relay tucked up in the dash behind the passangers air bag.

Okay.
So I have managed to get to the switch and give it a good clean. The maintenance guide on how to get things apart is excellent. All back together now but refusing to start with the cab being really warm today. There is a clicking noise behind the dash on the passenger side when I try the ignition, so I guess it could well be the starter relay in the dash behind the passenger airbag as previously suggested.
Anyone any ideas of how to get to it and what it looks like?

i changed my servotronic power stearing module which is located in the same place. I removed glove box to get to it, but wondered if that was really necessary he you laid on your back with your head right at the back of the footwell, and remove the cover card there, but suspect you will have to remove gb. Start with the side cover by air vent, access to screws with door open.
I bought a new module from vx, they printed out the location and gave me the diag. with the part.

Seems like this may be a starter switch problem after all. Bought a new one from Vaux world £10 to rule it out. Now, although the new switch is slightly faulty because it is powering up my dash and glow plugs at position 1, the car is starting okay where my old one will not. Am getting a replacement switch from Vaux world and will then be able to confirm whether fixed or not.

Hi New to this today.
My omega does not turn over when hot, leave it an hour and all is well. Have had new starter motor and Ignition switch. Tried to find Starter relay behind glove box, but only found a grey one and when removed the car started (so not the starter relay !)
Any ideas ?

Sorry for delay in this post. So it was the starter switch after all. The new one from Vaux world has fixed my starting problem on hot days. Thanks all for your suggestions. Hope Mike96 finds a cure as well.

After 2 weeks trouble free starting, I am confident enough to say my starting problem is fixed. By using a test lamp in various places on the start circuit I found a bad connection near the Auto interlock switch. My car is an Auto and there is a switch which only lets the engine start when in P or N, the wires go from this switch to a multiway plug (very near the exhaust, so accounts for the fault being temp related). By pulling and pushing the plug the contact is now good and it starts everytime.
