I just got my car back from my local garage, had it in to see if they could find the reason for the oil leak at the front of the engine, they said its the "crank case pulley oil seal" ( i think that wat they said lol but its close) now they've said the timing belt needs to be taken off to do this job, the oil seal will be £94 ( with labour) and about £100 for the belt/pulleys/tensionors so about £200 total.....the thing is the belt is only 3 weeks old as it was replaced when i had my head gasket done, but the gargae said just for their own piece of mind its best to put a new belt on, what do you guys recommend? new belt also? or just take off and refit the one its got? :question :y

I would say that if it had a full kit a few weeks ago then you might be able to get away with just a belt.
The garage is covering it's own arse so if they want to fit a complete kit but you don't want to the you might have to sign to say you declined the kit, if the rollers then go pop afterwards it would be down to you and could get really messy
This is only my personal opinion and not that of the companies
cheers

I guess its best just to get it all done and then i know its all new and SHOULDNT break anytime soon :y

Think that would be the best bet to be honest

Hi Andy,
I will also want to buy cranks case seal, pulley, belt, tensioners for 2.5 V6 Omega. Want to know the cost.
Cheers

I used my old belt and tensioners which were about 7 months old when i did my crank shaft oil seal. Make sure the garage has a tool to stop the crank from turning when they undo the centre crank bolt or they might break the key on the bottom gear.

Assuming the belt hasn't been contaminated with oil it'll be OK to re-fit IMHO. If you're paying dealer labour rates anyway, you might as well have a new one, though.

personally cant think of a single reason why you couldnt re fit. Anyone?
1, as long as its re fitted in the same direction.
2, not oil contaminated, as said.
Provided the whole kit was fitted last time, you still have 3 years 11months left on the kit you have if i read your post correctly,( cant have done that many miles either) and the previous 8 year duration for the kit was reduced to 4 due to the tensioner bearing failures as i understand it.
Use the "old"(new actually) belt if it was me.
Having said all that, how much is a new one? Only ever fitted as a kit myself.

Re-fit the belt......note, the pulley seal requires removal of the lower crank pulley and will need a new bolt on re-fit (seal is about 15 quid and the bolt about a fiver) .
The crank pulley needs to be held with a tool when removing the bolt, you CAN NOT simply pop it in gear as it will sheer the woodruff key off!

ive decided just to let them fit a new cam belt kit, i might aswell just to be 100% sure , but you've all got me even more worried now about things breaking and snapping off while they are doing this oil seal for me lol :-/ :-[ :-/ :(

Blimey, thats over cautious!
I have NEVER seen a belt fail, I ahve seen one damaged as a result of another failure but never a belt on its own.
