Title: Lumpy tick over

HI  can anyone help.
At tick over the engine(2.0 ecotec) runs lumpy but above this runs fine no loss of power,engine nice and smooth.The problem is just the tick over.Thought it might be plugs but changed these along with the HT lead with Bosch items.I
Had it plugged into the computer at the local garage and that showed no faults at all.
Any ideas on this one as it's driving me mad :D

That's been done.could it be the cam shaft senser.

Try checking the obvious things first e.g,air and fuel filter. ::)

Cars been in the garage for 2 days now.Tried a new coil pack,wasn't that,done a compression test,all upto spec for 90 thou engine.found out the problem seems to be with number 2 pot.due to bank holiday garage having an other look on Tuesday.they now think it may be a blocked or faulty injector.
I have been using the garage for ages and thank god they don't charge any labour until they find the fault.Is there anywhere on this site to recommend garages. :'(

Sorted.after checking the injectors,plugs,leads,coil pack,compression it turn out to be the manifold inlet gasket.It was blown at number 2 cylinder causing too much air to be sucked in at tick over.This is a first on me but if i wasn't shown it i wouldn't have believed it.Not a thing you look for when you get a misfire. Top marks to A&D garage in Bognor.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Unusual that the inlet gasket goes or have you had the manifold off at any time?

Was there any sign of oil or coolant on the failed gasket?

Just wondering if a cam-cover oil leak on that side of the head, or a coolant 'squirt' from a nearby hose may have weakened/eroded the gasket material?

No signs of any fluid leaks.Garage just put it down to the gasket.He tells me it looked like someone has removed the manifold before and didn't change the gasket but just used a lot of sealer.The last owner did tell he had cleaned the valve out,not sure if you need to remove the manifold for this

Last update on Mr lumpy.Car now at home with me.I think i got a good deal from the garage.
In total it took 5 hours to investigate and repair the miss.(new HT leads,Plugs,inlet Gasket etc,Handbrake adjustment,headlight aim adjusted Charge £110.(i requested the HT leads and plugs)

MOT £22.50(failed) :'(
New Genuine VX cat and lambda sensor supplied and fitted £250.00.VX quoted me £296.00 plus VAT just for the cat.
Free MOT retest passed :D
 Total including 2 bottles of coke & VAT= £ 382.50.All parts used are genuine VX parts,they wont use patten parts.
I think i got a bargain,what do you think.  ::)

Next step in a few months time Fast road cams,larger disc's and 6 pot brakes maybe a turbo or a super charger ? may even fit the 5.7 small block i have in the garage but i think that would be bit of a over kill(me or the car)Fit the full leather interior i have.
The car has already been lower 40mm all round and fitted with 17" VX alloys fitted with 245x45x17 rears and 245x40x17 front.I don't like body kits so the car except from the bits above will still look stock.
