Title: Replacing 2.5td Thermostat
Post by: DJ Pete on 03 September 2009, 13:28:21
Hello All,

Have been replacing my thermostat today due to overheating issues, however, upon replacing with a new o ring, the housing leaks.

Should I be using a gasket, or would black or grey Loctite do the trick?

Thanks in advance,

Pete.

Hi Pete,

Are you sure the ring is seated correctly? If it is not then it will cause a weep. Did you use a genuine kit and replace the seal?

Replacing the thermostat due to overheating issues and upon replacing with a new o ring, the housing leaks. i guess the part you have replace may not fitted on it...

I replaced mine , the new stat came without an o ring so I used blue hylomar. Worked fine, also changed the pump.
Had to fit new rad in the end to cure overheating, been good now for 15k.

Sounds like the black plastic housing is not seating correctly to it's mating face. These are not usually problematic.

I must have not seated it properly, worked fine when I redid it.

Thanks for advice.
