Hi all,
Had my Omega about a month now & pretty happy with it - all looking okay - no mayo, no oil where it should not be, no leaks etc. However, went to pick up some stuff from the shops today - as I left the car park, waited at a junction on a steep hill for about a minute, then pulled away. All okay at first, but when I started to ascend the hill at the other side, revs shot up to 5000, and the car no longer felt in gear. As I pulled to a stop, noticed that the yellow spanner warning light was on, signifying that limp mode had been invoked. Sure enough, as I pulled away again, I was clearly in one of the higher gears & the selector lever was useless. I stopped soon afterwards, killed the motor, waited a few seconds and restarted the engine - normal service resumed & no light. I've taken the car for a good run since, and all is well - shifting fine, nice and smooth, no worries. Done the pedal test, and the ECU returns 'P1700 Service Vehicle Soon Request from Transmission Control Module' as the only code. Anyone seen this? Should I be jacking the car up & checking the fluid, or could it mean more ? :-?.... Got a service booked in early October anyways. :y
It's a 2.6 Auto with 83k on the clock & a good Vx service history.
Cheers, Glenn

Hiya Glenn
At 83k, it's probably due it's first transmission fluid change. It's worthwhile checking the front sump to make sure there isn't a broken thrust washer in there, too.... :y

Mine did exactly the same - changed ATF and filter. I have not had limp mode since but twice it has lost drive for a couple of seconds in last few weeks. IT has done a long journey this weekend and last and no problems - if it happens it is at low speeds when it is presumably at a point between gear changes and gets confused. There are other posts on here about thrust washers and solenoids but first step is change ATF and filter and see what happens. I have not had the 1700 recur since I changed the ATF

Cheers for that - I've arranged for the oil and filters to be done during its service next month. My Commodore did sometimes drop out at low speeds too, but I never got the warning light. We've got a lot of hills around here, so would not be surprised if it got a bit lost from time to time. Fingers crossed :D

This happeneed to me a couple of years ago. After restart all was ok. I had the transmission oil changed and have had no further problems.
