Title: Auto box. Is it worth selling?
Post by: smokingomega on 06 September 2009, 12:29:04
Hi
I have a auto box taken out of a V reg 2.5 v6. It had done 75000 miles but the cambelt went.
Is the box worth anything? I was going to put it on ebay but didn`t know weather to or not.
Cheers

yeah torque converter is with it complete.
I just pulled it out before I scrapped it.
Didn`t know if it was worth more weighing it in at scrappers.

Not sure what they are on a 2.5 v6, AR35?, anyway would have thought some of your buyers would be someone who wants to chip thier 2.5 TD Auto and upgrade the gearbox. just a thought.  :y

£50 sounds about right to me.You might struggle to shift it though as most people who are changing boxes will upgrade to an AR35 if they know what theyre doing.
Having said that ,I didnt because I needed a gearbox in a hurry and someone near to me was selling an AR25 so I had it off them.

Why? is it better? dont the car lose some strength with a ar35 if it normally have a ar25?
Maybe I should aim at a ar35 instead if it fits just as well as a 25? but then again I dont know what im doing  ;D

The ar35 is a uprated gearbox to take more power from the engine.

Do you need any more parts? or is just a simple swap between ar25 and ar35? btw dont worry, i wont be doing the actual work of changing gearbox myself  :)

Aparrently some of the internals are stronger.I think the 2 boxes are outwardly identical. :-/

Ok, dont quiet understand that one, if you chip a 2.5TD it brings it up the BM spec, about 143bhp if your luckey, so why do you have to upgrade to AR35?, if the the 2.5V6 AR25 runs at 175Bhp'ish, surely cant be down to torque?  :o

Its not the increase BHP that kills the ar25 its the torque. IIRC the AR25 is designed to handle 250nm of torque whereas the AR 35 is designed to take 350nm :)

Ok, should have looked at the torque figures before I posted the question, Cheers Pete.  :y

AR 25 is used on all models unless it's a 3.0/3.2 which have AR35, AR25 in good condition ie with history £50 plus, AR35 in good condition, again with history £75 plus.
