Title: Needles jumping on starting
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 09 September 2009, 17:13:28
Just noticed that in the mornings first thing, the tachometer and speedometer needles jump up a bit (about 500).

When the car is warm both needles move down very slightly when starting.

Otherwise battery was new in June, and the car does start first time. Does it suggest however, that the alternator might be on its way out?

Thanks.

Have you done the paperclip test?
I seem to remember someone saying that it was linked to the cs sensor :-/

Thanks, in a way thats good and bad news. Good news in that its easy to fix, bad news in that it was only changed in June last year and I've only done 8,000kms since then.

The only times mine ever did that was
a: when the battery was nearly flat
b: the alternator wasn't charging correctly.

My initial guess was the alternator too  :(
