OK, had my Omega for one week so far. Had a few niggles with the alarm going off when the engine was started, doors unlocking themselves immediately after being locked and slow cranking when starting the engine.
I have just measured the battery voltage 10.5 volts :( (but the good news is that when the engine is started it goes straight up to 14.3v and stays at 14v with everything electrical switched on :y).
I think the battery is the original, (so 6 years old) markings are:
Vauxhall 12 01 264 EP
12v 66Ah 300A(DIN) DF
Maintenance Free Wartungsfrei
Does anyone have any strong opinions on different brands of maintenance free batteries? If I had a trade card I would go & buy a genuine battery tomorrow. Can anyone tell me what the price for a genuine battery is from Vauxhall?
-
Genuine, about £80, Go Battery (Vx budget battery) about £60.
If you're going to keep the car, I would go for the genuine.
Both prices are less, if you can find someone with a trade card.

£47 with a Trade Club card, you'd save the best part of the membership fee buying your battery. :y

How do I go about getting a trade club card?
I started a thread earlier today in 'General Discussion Area' and was advised to join either Autobahnstormers or VODC.

It was me who suggested ABS. Isn't there a form to fill in & send off to Alf? .... I'll have a look

Fill it in and send snail mail to Alf, apparently he turns them round in a week.#You then need to show your membership card to your local friendly parts dept and convince them that you are entitled to Trade Club prices ... there's difference to normal trade prices. You do need to be persuasive at some dealers
NB Not all dealers are part of Trade Club ;)
-
OK thanks.
So if I present an Autobahnstormers membership card I will get 'Trade Club Card' prices?
I was assuming that Trade Club was for commercial customers only.......
25 years ago I lived 7 miles from the Vauxhall plant in Luton and half the people I had been to school with had a relative who could claim 'staff discount'. The factory has been demolished now, Bedford Trucks gone, AC Delco gone :'(
-
OK thanks.

.....
It is, but membership of the club (& a few others) will entitle you to the discount. :y
As said though, make sure that you do get the Trdade club prices & not ordinary trade prices.
-
Printing the form now, will post it tomorrow.
I don't know if I can delay replacing the battery until the card arrives though :(
-
Alf turns the membership cards around very fast ... I'd bet you have yours by Friday at the latest.
Just to clarify things .... ABS card will give you tradeclub prices from a participating dealer... these are special prices on service items. My local dealers in swidnod are very good and also give me normal trade prices on non-tradeclub items ... but this is not gauranteed. Once you get your TC you can also get a login for the tradeclub site
http://www.tradeclub.com
this will allow you to check if an item is available at a tradeclub price, and what that price is.
Just for info ... the tradeclub site lists 3 participating dealers in cornwall, and you don't need to log in to check .. just click on "distributor locater"

Thanks again.
My nearest dealer is a trade club member :)

Autobahnstormers membership pack turned up this morning. Excellent service, I didn't post the application until Monday morning.
Turns out that my nearest Vauxhall dealer isn't a Trade Card branch so the VX website is a bit misleading.
Got myself to the next branch and ordered a VX battery. Nice price but not a stock item so got to go back to pick it up on Saturday.
Is the procedure for battery replacement the same on a 2003 2.6 V6 as on a 1994 2.5 V6 ?
ie
1. Turn on ignition
2. Wait for most of the dash lights to go out
3. Disconnect battery within 30 seconds or so
4. Connect new battery
5. Press window & sunroof switches until you hear each relay click

i think im going to join up to the ABS as well been meaning to since my first omega

Nearly
You've onlly got 15 secs for the battery.
Windows reset is OK but sunroof ... you turn the dial to each major position in turn and push & hold the dial till all movement has stopped.

Interruption of power supply
After interruption of the power supply or a
drop in battery voltage the desired sun roof
position is no longer set automatically. The
electronics of the sun roof must be
reprogrammed as follows:
1. Switch on ignition.
2. If sun roof is closed:
Set rotary switch to l and hold down for at
least 5 seconds.
If sun roof is open:
Set rotary switch to l, press until sun roof
is closed, and then continue to hold down
rotary switch for at least 5 seconds.
3. Set rotary switch to q, press until sun roof
is raised, then set switch to l and press
until sun roof is closed.
4. Set rotary switch to ü and press until
sun roof is fully raised. Then set rotary
switch to l and press until sun roof is
closed.
If automatic closing of the sun roof is not
possible after programming, repeat steps
3 and 4.

Frustrating day today. Went to GSF first to pick up new radiator for wifes Golf. Got into Omega (with new Golf radiator) turned key & engine struggled to turn over. Second attempt & engine burst into life so with a sigh of relief decided to go straight to VX & pick up battery that I ordered on Thursday.
Arrived at VX dealer to be told that there is a stock take being held in Luton so the battery won't be in till Wednesday. Bit of a nuisance because I was planning to drive to Scotland when the M5 reopens on Tuesday >:(
I wonder if the Unipart GBA3075 battery innocently resting in my wifes Golf would do the job? :-?
-
I have spent the last two hours on Google and have established that 075 batteries are recommended by lots of manufacturers for the Omega but I can't find any tables for Unipart batteries :(
-
I would put the battery off the Golf in the boot with a set of jump leads just incase your battery lets you down ;)
-
The battery in the Omega is reading 10.5v so it has one dead cell. My fear is that if I keep driving it something is going to go pop.
I don't really want to spray the engine bay with sulphuric acid :(
The battery in the wifes car looks like the one in the Omega and I would be happy to borrow it if I could find something that showed the Unipart recommendation for a V6 Omega.
-
Swap it over, it will be fine for just a few days!
Just check that the terminals are the correct way around first! As some are +/- and others are -/+! :y
-
I put the Unipart battery in yesterday. It is about an inch shorter than the OE battery.
Wife was particularly taken by the 'little overcoat' on the Omega battery ;D
Omega bursts into life the way it should now :y
-
Home again after a short holiday.
1500 miles over the last 10 days, battery borrowed from wifes Golf worked perfectly :)
Windows worked fine after resetting by pressing 'up' on each windows switch until the relay clicked. Sunroof worked fine without being reset.
-
According to my intrepid local vx dealer who I have to say is pretty good with being helpful etc with anything I buy or ask about , did quote me a 66amp hr battery is now the listed size for the 3.0 V6 I have no reason to not trust his info so bought the 66amp for mine been fine ever since..
-
I believe the 85ah listing for the 3.2 is wrong too. I recall someone buying one and it's a huge thing that won't fit. IIRC, my 3.2 has a 65ah job in it. Pays to check the dimensions of a battery before buying IMHO.

I've just fitted the Vauxhall 95amp battery to sooty, its massive but it fits OK, the passenger side front now looks to be sitting about 6" lower though ;D
