Title: Water leak
Post by: Glassback on 09 September 2009, 16:10:13
Hi. There is a strange looking unit just in front of the drivers side front wheel, on my 2.2 tdi cdx 51 plate face lift omega saloon. It looks like there is a small exhaust pipe on it as well, I would say its made from stainless steel because its shiny. The trouble is there is water dripping from it. I have had a look at it, there are Three pipes, I think Two are water (One in & One out) and one small diameter pipe. Also there is a power supply (disconnected) It must have been  disconnected for some time, because the connections are very corroded. Does any one know what it is for, and what the small diameter pipe is for, and can I just bypass it ie. join the Two water pipes together. If I do this will it have any effect on any of the systems. I have asked the main stealers and they just walked around scratching their heads. Saying "der we don't know" They are about as much use as a One legged bloke at an arse kicking party. I hope some one on here can shed some light on it. thanks

I could be wrong but it sounds like a compressor for the rear suspension under the drivers side wing.
Never had a look at mine.

I am sure it's not a compressor, there are no pipes or connections going to the shockers. All the compressors I have seen on cars are either oil or air I have never seen one using water. But thanks for your answer.

You haven't got a water heater fitted for cold areas.I had a water heater fitted to a volvo truck many years ago to stop the water freezing overnight. This was a extra as we went to Russia a lot.Stainless steel box,3 wires,2 rubber hoses and 1  drain hose.Does this sound something like it ?

It sounds very similar, but the Third pipe (small diameter) is on top. and goes to some sort of valve.

Here you go. As far as I know it's used to heat the cabin quickly on cold mornings without waiting for the car to heat up fully.

So if I just connect the water pipes together it should stop the leak!
