Title: How much should I pay for a tailgate?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 06 December 2007, 13:38:14
How much should i expect to pay for a replacement tailgate for my estate?
Bearing in mind that it's bound to be the wrong colour and will need painting.

Before you go down the replacement route, try getting a quote from a Paintless Dent Removal outfit.  They can work wonders and are usually a hell of lot cheaper.  Had to use them twice on the Wife's honda.

Erm, I think it might be a little beyond that??

can you get directly to the panel itself??
i had a dent slightly larger than that near my filler cap, and because it was where the first aid kit goes in the boot, i managed to get my foot in and ease most of it out..

I'm pretty sure a PDR company will be able to take car of the now minor creasing, so see whether yours is accessable from the other side

its not how much you pay its how many corneres your prepared to cut

If you source new and paint you would be looking at £300 ( assuming you find a part onlne and cheap) that part new wont have trim or i suspect glass...

Alternative is to wait and pay when a breaker in your colour becomes available, or take the plunge for the first one that available and then pay for a respray.

Sourcing the part second hand and used should be anything between £40 and £80

Don't be so sure!  When I was looking for an outfit to sort out the dent on the Wife's car, some of the websites of these companies had before and after pics with damage as bad as that.  Clearly there is also damage to the paint, but it is still worth a look.

I dont think it would be to much trouble for a specialist to get rid of that "Bump"

just go and compare prices, although it may turn out cheaper to get another Tailgate :y
