Title: can I put these tyres??
Post by: mathewst on 16 September 2009, 13:30:00
Ok a simple thing butwant to be sure.
My alloys are standard facelift cdx alloys 225x55x16
Can I put 215x55x16 tyres on them?

Well theres nothing to stop you putting the tyres on, but your speedo will over-read by 1.7% (and you'll have slightly less contact area with the tarmac obviously).

your "new" size is not among the original recommendated sizes. However, there is no problem to fit them if they have adequate load index and you can live with the inaccurate speedo.

One issue I found when I had this size wheels (from a Vectra C with original Vectra C alloys): they somehow look quite small under an Omega, the difference in diameter is only a few millimeters but still... :-/

225x0,55=123,75  :D
205x0,60=123,00  :D
205x0,55=118,25 :-[

I have Omega 225/55/16's on my Zafira now which originally had 205/55/16's...looks really chunky and I like it a lot, better to have bigger tyres than smaller ones :y Not sure how out my speedo is now though lol

Your speedo is under by 3.5% (when your speedo says 60mph, you are travelling at 62mph).

I agree MutantCav it is better to have bigger ones but these 225 tyres tend to cost a fortune :'(

Having said that, you will probably find that with OE fitted, when your speedo said 62, you were travelling at 60!  ::)

Omega Speedometers should read +3mph above the actual speed throughout the range.

I use 215/55/16 bridgestone potenza and quite pleased with them..

Speedo reading even with standard tires normally not that accurate..  So its not a problem with those tires also.. But if you want real figures I'm sure there are places in your country which can measure the correct speed.. Mine after the MOT was measured to read 3 kms more than the actual with the above tires..

Also if I remember correctly from previous threads it can be arranged by Tech 2..
