Hi all can anyone think what it can be to why my car is using so much oil.Its a 2.0 8v with nearly 192k on the clock.Say if i top it up 2 max a week later it will be just under the min.I can see oil on the side of the block on the right handside where the manifold is but dont know there its coming from.Any help will be good as its cost to much money in oil

Sounds like cam cover gaskets to me.......??

-
Does your exhaust smoke? if yes what colour?
I would also have said cc gasket (cam cover)

No smoke comes from the exhaust only white smoke first thing in the morning

When was your last oil change? old oil/bad oil makes the engine use oil a good rule on a healthy engine with some mileage is to stay away from thin oil (0W40 or 5W40) the best option can be semi syntetic 10W40 and 15W40
i would have been sure that no oil is leaking out of the engine, and then changed the oil and added omega or some other seal conditioner in it. thats the easiest and cheapest ting to try.

check your oil pressure switch a friend of a friends car was using a liter every four days but no sign of oil leaking turned out to be oil pressure switch gasket new one fitted no more problems
-
Last oil change was 3k ago as i do it every 4k.Think what i`ll do is get the engine all cleaned down and then go from there.Just brought some dipstick o-rings from vauxhall for £5.52.Also where would the oil pressure switch and valve steam seals be
-
Oil pressure switch to the left of crank pulley valve seals means heads off
-
ahhh just noticed its 2.ol not sure of oil pressure switch sorry
-
Right well today i cleaned my engine down with a steam clean and fitted the 2 o-rings to the dipstick

I think I'm right in saying its not a good idea to steam clean these modern engines due to water getting into the electrical connectors :(.

I've had the same concern with my MV6. Had it checked and eventually replaced the Camshaft Oil Seals and the front Crankshaft Oil Seal. Worth taking a look. :)
