i recently bought a 2.5 v6 2000 omega the original rad was leaking badly so replaced it with new all hoses connected correctly thermostat working and fan working i can drive several miles with no probs as soon as i get in traffic car gose on to red and i get steam under the bonnet
HELP!!!

If it's ok on the move and the issue starts in traffic then it sounds like a fan issue.
Edit: Oops, just read the "fan working" bit. ::)
Try putting the A/C on next time it gets hot. If the extra A/C fan cools it down, even slightly, then maybe it's worth checking the primary cooling system fan again.

Hi sounds like u need a new engine termstate, mine did that was not opening all the way so the fan cannot cool the water down as it should, or could be there is a blockage in the inter heater, dose the heater work in the car on full? could be easy job to fix. :y
-
Did you bleed the cooling system correctly? could be an air lock, or as mentioned your thermestat is fuba.
-
thermostats replaced but the heater in the car dose not work at all (lovley and cold though) bought car as needing TLC but think i have bitten off more than i can chew we have taken to specialist and they dont know but they said heating matrix is good
-
ps. is it recomendable to wire all fans together? as think thats the prob too
-
Does the fan kick in when temp gets high :question
-
right this is what happens temp norm at about 80 when moving as soon as i get to lights or traffic it gose up to 85 and all fans kick in then it gose up to 100 steam comes out of bonnet, when i start moving again it gose down to 80 i have replaced both rads and thermostats and valves the previous owner sold it due to this prob im not sure what to do :o
-
Can you drive say 5-10 miles and temp is ok. Does the overheating only start when as you say stopped at lights or in traffic :question
-
i drive about 80 moles a day and car is lovley just when i get in traffic :(
-
could be the cooling system is not pressurising ( steam escaping) I seem to recall issues with the header bottle cracking or pressure cap failed I have been known to be wrong though
-
Car cold inside is the air valve on the direction control ie the defrost the window direction of were the heat or cold should go, have to take out the radio and remove the hole panel then the panel behind it until you find the controler that has all the black pipes on it, easy way to find out if it is this run engine for a bit then turn it off then turn the dial and listen for a thud when you turn it if no thud the seal has gone. :y :y
-
Have had the problem my self easy fix just cross head screw driver and a flat blade 1, takes a bout 10 min to fix.

Good point :y Bear in mind engine will be cooled to a certain degree by the forced air whilst car is in motion. Let engine idle with heater set to max, blowers on max pressure cap off and "burp" the top hose to ensure there are no airlocks
-
rads are presurissing, but i mean im also getting no heat in the car because the old trick was when the car starts over heating you turn the heaters on to cool it down but the matrix is fine both rads replaced all new hoses where they should be
i know v6 do run hot but how hot should it be??

just had a thought when left running for a whille there is a funny smell could it be the oil cooling system?? did an oil change when i got car (like always) and there is no exces oil
