Title: juddering when excessive accelerating
Post by: mick-1975 on 21 September 2009, 18:25:12
hi been driving a friends auto omega , and noticed that when you use excessive accelerating there is a juddering coming from the rear .
its ok if u drive it normally,
am i right in thinking that it could be the prop shaft rubbers need replacing ??  :y

yes it can be or the thrust baring on the end of the gearbox,, or even the balace weight on the propshaft, push up and pull down on the shaft in dif places u should feel it give to much or even see it. :y :y

The 'box could be low on fluid - worth checking/investigating. Or it could be on it's way out, due to slipping bands/torque convertor failing.

As said, I'd check on the prop/joints too, and alsolook at the auto-box as above whilst underneath.

Still trying to visualise 'excessive acceleration'  :)

I assume it isn't the traction control cutting in?

I got my Triumph MOT'd this morning, 0-60 in about 4 seconds makes my Omega feel a little lethargic in comparison  ::)

wont be box as its a manual, which would slip rather than judder.

Car in question is his mate's auto-boxed one!

Yep, didnt see the bit about being a friends auto. Must remember to read not skim.
In my experience, when a prop fails you get knocking as the shaft rotates in an oval, wouldnt call it juddering. Again, I wouldn't expect an auto omega to suffer to much from TC causing the juddering unless the tyres are different sizes or amounts of wear. Friend with vectra had problems as 2 tyres were new and 2 almost illegal, TC kept cutting in as the rolling circ. was so far out.
