Title: Urgent - Fault Codes - Engine Stalling
Post by: star_whites on 22 September 2009, 07:56:19
Ok my nightmare with the engine stalling has arrisen its head again. Ive replaced my blowing back box and also the middle box as found a crack in it but think I caused that restling with the back box.

It ran ok for a couple of days and started again last night. It start fine when cold and usually runs ok until hot. Then if you stop the engine and restart she wont keep running unless you keep the revs up all the time.

This morning Ive drove to work and shes started doing it before I even got her warm. So as soon as I arrived I got the trusty paperclip out and with the engine running I got 12 and 74. All the time I was getting these the eml was flickering as if the faults are intermitent. Unfortunatly as Im at work I have no idea what these codes are and I need to find out as I do away to scotland on saturday and need to get it sorted quick.

Oh the cars a 1999 3.0 MV6 and just so you know it currently has a leak from the manifold to downpipe joint on the drivers side bank but I wouldnt have thought this was causing the problem.  :-/

Unplug MAF and use contact cleaner to clean plug and MAF contacts.  Reconnect.
If that doesn't cure it you may need a new MAF - off ebay around £35

Does anyone know the part number for one of these. Also on reading this note it states that it is sometimes missread as a fault when it is not. Usually when the engine is either at 3000 or at idle. I tested mine at idle and it was very intermittent so I wonder if it is not faulty at all. I will go and check again but with the engine turned off.

Ok Ive just been out and I have the fault codes 12, 78 and 31. Now if im right 12 & 31 are just telling me the car was not running. 74 obviously is the MAF.

I take it that the part numbers are the part number that is on the pipe as the sensor looks like it cant be removed?? I got the number GM90448366?

Sensor can be removed.
And you can find it relatively cheap on ebay.

Thanks for the offer rusty, my brother also works at a motor recycling facility (otherwise known to you or me as scrapyard  ;D). He got me one for £10 off a runner in the yard. Ive just fit it as it was a pain in the rear all the way home.

Going out in half hour for a run into sheffield to pick up my sister so hopefully it will be ok  ::)
