Title: grooving standard discs????
Post by: sharky on 24 September 2009, 12:00:03
Would like to know if standard vented discs could have
grooves machined into them as grooved discs are expensive,
obviously I mean done by a engineering company (not with an angle grinder, :D)
Would it weaken them?

Erh in a word yes !!
Standard discs have a tolorance designed in so yo can skim them.
If you try and cut groves in a standard disc then you will end up with warped discs when they get hot.

Just stick to vx discs and pads and just give the brakes a good service.
New fluid and piston seals, flexy hoses make a big diferance  :y

I do not no if it is ok or not, but one of our millers did it to a set of discs for a Saab. I have not heard any reports of failure or problems and it was about 18 months ago it was done.

That said, I do not think I would do it to my brakes.
