Hello guys well this is my first post so go easy on me if its a bad one :), well i recently got myself a 2.5 V6 auto omega and im loving it, best car i've had so far :), however im in need of a omega guru as i have a few problems with my baby, first is that it has a rather poor idle kinda juddery but if reved to about 1000 smooth as you like any ideas? second is when idleing and a particuly big judder happens with the headlights on the back light for the air con switch fades out and the orange light to say its on partly comes on any ideas?? and third when i rev high there is a very fast slapping/banging noise fron the front of the engine any ideas??? well yes the car does sound bad but i love it a bit of tlc will go a long way i think :) thanks for any replies.

Clean the Idle Air Control Valve.
Secondly, sounds like there's a problem with your aircon compressor check the fanbelt around it with the engine running.
And last of all make sure its not the cambelt :o

thanks for the replies :), as i guessed the belt probaly does need doing :S 117000 miles never changed as far as i can tell, can you tell me the general area of the idle control thing? also a problem with the compressor can it be fixed or will it be better to get a replacement?

Belts need changing every 40000 miles or 4 years whichever comes first :o
The idle control valve on a v6 I'm not so sure but I think its on the right of the throttle body :y Take it off and spray inside with carb cleaner.

It seems like your engine has been on borrowed time for a very long time!!! :o

Can I ask how you tell if it has been or needs changing? or is it if in doubt whip it out ::)

Should be changed to the service schedule. Documentation is only real clue.

Your cam belt, if original, is on the point of failure. If this happens, will be expensive repair or need new engine most likely. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR, OR TURN THE ENGINE ON UNTIL RECTIFIED IMHO. or at least prove when last changed.

He doesnt say 117000 miles ago he just mentions the mileage are we to assume the cambelt & kit have never been changed in 117000 miles if so you are its hardy believable !!! as it must be in shreds almost I would 'nt drive it another foot its living on borrowed time you will be scrapping the engine if it breaks, so heed the warnings your getting on here the recommended replacement mileage for this work is 40000 miles or 4 yrs, so give us the correct bumpf ! :-/
-
in theory its due 'in 3k anyway if its not over or out of date. May as well just change it, but really needs the noise and belts investigating.

The rattling sound could be the drivebelt crank pulley going. Sometimes the rubber ring between the inner and outer halfs of the wheel can dissintergrate causing it to rattle. You will get a chance to look at it when doing the cambelt and checking the aircon.
failing that it could actually be the AC compressor wheel has gone.

ok done the cam belt :) nice easy job really whoo, but after that she refused to start again after a few times round the block :(, this is due to the idle control valve i think as when its unpluged i can keep it running and drive but gotta keep revs there :(, the slapping/rattle niose is still present could this be due to a swirl baffle in the front exhaust loose? do omegas have these?
