Title: Common place for an oil leak
Post by: Omegadoha, Desert Member on 25 September 2009, 08:47:20
Just noticed a dribble of engine oil on the road, is there a common place for oil leakage on the 3.2? Or could it be anything?

Thanks

How old is your oil filter??
Don't think that will leak if you change it regularly.
Did you hit anything with the underside of the car (made a hole in the sump)??

same as other v6 's afaik. Cam covers (most likely), crank seal, oil pressure switch. When where breathers last cleaned?

Are you sure its engine oil not atf? (if auto)

First check the top of the engine to be sure it isn't cam cover gasket.
Then check the sump, then oil pressure switch, oil filter are easily replaced but never heard of one leaking except if it wasn't placed properly :-/

Atf = Automatic transmission fluid. (Dexron 3) less likely than engine oil imho.

Where the oil drips under the car will be biggest clue i guess.

Thanks chaps. I had the cam cover gaskets changed recently and cleaned the breathers about a year ago. The oil was changed about six months ago. I hope it is something as simple as the oil filter not fitted correctly.

Where abouts is the oil pressure switch?

Front left, look down at the sump lip from above and you'll see it.
