Hi Guys,
My lovely old 2.5 V6 has started using oil like there is no tomorrow! It started quite slowly, where it would smoke on warm up (not on cold start), but that is getting longer and longer now. Last Tuesday I smoked out the M4 between junctions, then it stopped.
Now it still doesn't smoke at startup, but during the warm up when I pull away it obliterates the car behind me, it then calms down when warm to be OK. All this said it is still going through max-min in less than 20 miles. It is also leaking oil as the driveway has drops all over it, and the block is getting messier. The smoke is grey/white, I wouldn't have said it was blue.
There is no water in the oil or vice versa, but it loves drinking water too, but only sometimes, I can go for weeks without topping up the coolant, then it'll be 5 times in a 60 mile journey - it's bonkers. :D
A friend said it was valve stem seals, which I think too, but THAT much oil...
I'm toying with just buying a new lump, or giving it the 'spares/repairs' treatment on ebay. :'(

Cam cover gaskets shot away. :-/ Seems a lot of oil though :o
Sporadic water loss could be HBV at rear of engine

I once had a Datsun 100A that had a blown head gasket, it used to put out lots of white smoke, which I think means unburnt fuel. Black smoke is oil getting past rings or valve seals. However as yours is changing a lot, eg sometimes doing it and other times not, I think something's loose, or about to go. There are a lot of related things, eg if the water is low, it boils off the oil, but .......
I have no experience of the V6's, but would suggest the standard stuff, eg check oil and water regularly, to try and work out if its short or long journeys causing the problem, check the engine for leaks etc, until you spot where its going.
Best of luck,
Ken

check the hbv for the water problem mate.
as for the oil, how many miles has the engine done / how often does the oil get changed ?
might be a idea to do a compresion test on it.
should give you a better idea of the problem.

Abvious stuff first
Air filter
Breathers

White smoke is water, Dark / blue is oil. could be your hbv, with water loss.
Also do a compression test, does your tail pipe look normal or dirty / oily?
What side of the engine has the most oil on it?
