just wondering if anybody on here would be able to answer if the ls1 v8 from a vauxhall monaro cv8 would fit in an omega engine bay?
I have the option to get the complete running gear engine gearbox propshaft lsd diff all ecus and wiring etc from a 2002 monaro and i have a mv6 omega 2001 with blown engine and was thinking that would make a good match.
So are there any members out there who could help me

Yes it would fit, GM almost fitted the 5.7L V8, but wimped out at the last minute

And part of the reason they pulled out were unresolved "issues" with the cooling ........
Just so you know

I wouldn't meet the vollgasfest requirement (in other words, would likely suffer if some German decided to take it up the Autobahn bouncing off the rev limiter in top).
It would probably have been fine for all practical purposes in this country.

so problems with cooling could be an issue certainly if using a supercharger.
the engine is indeed the 5.7 v8 designation ls1 thanks for the info guys like i said im toying with the idea at the moment for a winter project.
I have access to the complete running gear just not the interior due to the roof being cut off.
Andy thanks for your intrest i may need to pick you gray matter if /when i start it if not i shall give you first refusal on the lot
thanks for the help guys

Seen a chevy small block in a Omega,The chap told me IIRC the bulk head needs a bit of modification, small cut and weld job.Fitted 2 Kenlow fans and fitted a mesh grill for better air flow.He had a one off radiator made, same hight but slightly thicker. If can fit a small block Chevvy in to a Ex BT HA van (Major bulkhead mods) with no over heating problems i can't see why there should be in a omega.Only thing to think about is the brakes and suspension due to the extra weight. :y

ive got the brakes, suspension, engine, box, ecus, the complete rolling chassis it even has a ripshifter fitted.

If that's the case you should be OK.You will not be able to see if you over heat until the car is up and running, just fit a manual bypass switch to the fans just incase. You may want to fit some ducting to the front to force cool air to the radiator. If i remember some and Carltons in Australia were fitted with V8.You transition tunnel may need a few mods to make the gearbox fit.the easiest way if the box doesn't fit is to cut the one from the other car and weld into you car. This isn't a weekend job as my old HA van took over a year to get on the road and an other 2 to get everything perfect. This included making a complete chassis and making the jag IRS and wheel tubs fit.

Another thing to remember mate is that going from a 6 to an 8 cylinder your rev counter wont read properly! :y

GM has an Omega V8 at their Opel Museum at Rüsselsheim but sadly never made it to production. :'(
