Title: Elite v6 auto stalls randomly
Post by: tbone on 01 October 2009, 20:06:08
Hi all,

My Elite 3.0 auto estate (x-reg) has started stalling at random times. Sometimes while idling, sometimes when cruising. It doesn't seem to make a difference if the engine is hot or cold. When running the engine purrs, there's no spluttering or funny idle. There are no warning lights showing on the dash. After a bit of a rest, from a few minutes up to an hour, she restarts again with no problems, and might go a few hundred yards or 20 miles before stalling again.

I've taken it to two local garages, one changed the alternator (?!) and the other cleaned the ICV, but this has not helped. Can anyone suggest what might be going on?

Many thanks!
tbone

Sounds like crank sensor, paperclip test will prove before spending money

Thanks for the advice TheBoy and the offer to scan razzo. I ended up taking it to Vauxhall as getting it fixed quickly became more important that saving a few quid. Vauxhall have diagnosed a faulty crank sensor and are fitting a new one, so looks like you were right on the mark TheBoy. Will post again when it's fixed for sure to let you know the outcome.  Cheers, tbone.
