I'm still having a few issues but i'll start with this one as its annoying the shizzle out of me! hehe
Started having a few idles problems, really rough and wouldnt idle when first started. I have 3 ICV to choose from and it just so happens that the polished one i got give out the best constant idle but the problem with it not idling when first started is still around! If fires up first turn, tries to tickover but its too low and just dies.
-
Is the idle constant, or is it hunting?
Additionally, is the CTS providing back a valid signal?
-
Can you post up what year your car is please and also what engine it has.
-
Sorry, its a 1994 X30XE!
The idle is constant now i have changed the ICV after its initial starting problem & the CTS was changed 1-2 months previous. How do i test the CTS?

Yeah, as long as you have the 16 pin diag socket, not 10 pin one

Hi I would have a look at the ide valve as some times they get cloged up, best way to clean it is with some vinigar and hot water leave it for an hour then wash out ad dry it, worked on all the 1z ive done, not harmfull and renews the rubbers. :y :y

As you look at the engine, its to the right of the plenum which is the big silver bit with eco tech printed on it). Icv plugs in the side of it, over the cable tray with a rubber feed pipe from the air inlet. It is silver aluminium and about the size of a mustard pot.(English, not that French muck) with an electrical plug on the back.
Remove clean/ soak in carb cleaner and lube with a light oil. But mine took 3 or 4 soakings before it settled down. Also worth paper clipping to see if any fault codes stored.

Thanks very much, I will have another go at in the morning. We only seemed to clean the outer edge of it the other day so I will have another go at it and pour the suggested cleaner into it.
Got a lad coming around with his machine tomorrow night so Im hopeing for a better cause of thr prob as I know I will bugger something else up if I tried the pctest :-?

its off and the inside of it is now in soak....... silly question the outside ( hose connection bit) is clear and i can blow through it but there seems to be a shutter value inside it thats only part open..... is this correct and could the blockage be deep inside it???
-
it has to move check that it can move, give it a good clean, but dry it out b4 you put it in again, it should be open think it 0.5mm, but when engine is in idel, it try to close it some the valve move in and out and keeps engine running.

in the idle valve itself there is a shutter valve, yes. That valve is what adjusts the tick over via the signal through the electrical plug. from memory mine used to sit about a mill open :-/. Dont be tempted to use a screw driver to wedge it open and see if its free like i did. I managaed to chip the leading edge making it stick open, then had to find a way of fileing it down to get to move freely. :(

use a bit of plastic, connect to a 6VOLTS bat charger and that will help it clean it out as well only 6Volts, when a all clean make sure the two pin holes in the middel bar are clean as well, put back together with bit of white grease, sould work fine then. :y :y
-
all clean now, but i must check these pin holes as i think i may have missed them :-[ :-/
Silly question, would the EML still remain on until this magic box is used tonight as she started up fine and idled for a while before she cut out and will not start now
-
now that sounds like there is another fault, if its clean it should be ok listen to the idler with the ignition on and see if you can here it buzzing. if its buzzing then it has vols to it and should be working, :y
-
back to this problem im having:
Its only when cold started, can i unplug the CTS, what will happen it i try to run without it plugged in? Its a brand new CTS from Vaux but you never know.
-
have you a multi meter,?, if so test the resistance on the intake air temprature sensor, the big black pipe from filter, see if its still working as that help with the startup telling ECU how much fuel to use, which then varies the volts to the idler. should be around 0.10oms 0.18oms resistance. test that first. :y
-
ok bud thanks, what settings do i have the MM on?
-
2 oms as 20 can give a false reading somtimes. sorry so long been out. try that and if gose straight to 0,00 then its no good can temporary fix it with a 10 oms resistor until you get a new one, that should fool ECU to think its a nice day. :y
