I'm thinking of doing this.
read a guide in maintenance section, actually read both guides.
The guide from facelift says I only need a new switch
The guide from prefacelift has the following sentence
Facelift models need only the actuator stalk and (sometimes) the pedal switches
How can I know do I need these pedal switches?

head under the dash im afraid....
iirc there needs to be a swicth on the clutch pedal (if manual)
and the brake switch has 4 pins on the connector, if you only have 2, its the wrong type.

Are these switces visible without removing anything ?

Just reread the guides (there are 2 for facelift)...
and it sounds like there is liekly to be NO pedal switch work to do :y

if you check, then the insulation above the pedals need to come off, and access is not easy....
but as above sounds like you dont need to :y

Just bought a facelift 2000 2.2 16v CD auto and as suggested on this great site, fitting cruise to this model was very easy indeed.
All it took was buying a new stalk of ebay (£23 delivered next day), undoing the steering cowl screws (2 facing you, 2 above your knees) lifting off the top cover, squeezing the tabs to release the stalk from housing, swapping for the new stalk and just simply plugging in the extra lead on the new stalk to the spare connector next to stalk socket. Then a nice chap let me in the back door of the Vaux garage and plugged in tech2, went to options; cruise; fitted, yes/no, highlighted yes instead of no, pressed confirm and it worked. Nothing else needed. Amazing!
Great car, very impressed. Managed average 41mpg on 40 mile warm-running A road journey on cruise. Now glad I had the 2.2 not the 3.2 I originally wanted.
The 2.2 is no slouch either in sport mode.....!

whats important to remember is the engines, it does not matter if its a facelift or not.
2.0/2.5V6/3.0V6 = All need the goodies to make cruise work, no tech2 needed (actuator, ect is needed)
2.2/2.5TD/2.6/3.2 = All have electronic throttles and a chat with tech2, manuals need a clutch switch. All 2.5TD's work straight away
