Post by: stuthespread on 13 October 2009, 09:03:34
started the car as usual this morning, after 5 minutes or so the tickover became arratic and now she's running as rough as a robbers dog.i've checked the plug wells for oil and they're all fine, did paperclip test and thats fine also.can the dis pack be tested or is it just trial and error, also what would a new one cost?

Id start be removing and cleaning the idle control valve

then check / clean breathers, check air filter etc

dis pack can be sort of tested with a spark guage, about £40 new, leads £20 upwards for pattern

At a guess, it won't be helping!

hi there
can you expand on the dis pack test? what is a spark gauge?
i have a similar problem in that my miggy ran rough(sounded like it was running on 3 cyls) then didn't run at all. i've removed a spark plug after leaving it for a week, then trying to start it. it smelled of petrol so i assume its getting fuel through, but  it won't fire up. i've changed the cam sensor as code 94 was showing but that didn't help.
by the way i hope this hijacking of a thread isn't too rude. apologies if it is. :question

I saw The Master use one of these at York and so bought one myself as they are a brilliant bit of kit :y
It plugs into the lead where the spark plug would be, on the bottom is a wire that you clip onto earth, turn over the car and measure how far the spark jumps :y this will show if you dispack or leads have had it :y you coujld then check your leade with a multimeter to rule out that  :y :y
