hi, what would be a good price to pay for the supply and fit of cam cover gaskets on a 2.6 v6cd? i hear it is quite a job. :)
-
Not a hard job to be honest, maybe an hours labour 2 at the most.
Edit......... I just noticed you have a 2.6, so this might be different to a 2.5, but I doubt it.
-
o.k, any idea on price? :)
-
Where do you live?
Update your Status and you might find someone on here will tackle it for you at a fair price.
Two hours labour in a Garage could be anything from £60 to £160!!
-
2.6 so less junk above the cam covers, best off doing it yourself! Take your time and you know its done right. Garages will rush through as quick as possible with poor pattern parts.
-
thanks. :)
-
Make sure the gaskets that are fitted are genuine and that whoever fits them cleans the breathers or you will have to replace them again soon. I would say £130 with the genuine parts supplied and the breathers cleaned is about fair ;)

hi mate, Daz from the club has offered to come down next week and do them for me. all booked with him now, and given what i have read about him i dont think i have any worries :y

Ok two questions if anyone knows
-
Sorry posted without questions so here they are.
1. Can anything else cause cam gasket to leak except breathers ( I mean new gasket not the old one which can leak from age)
2. Can cam gaskets be changed without problems, cause I don't have tools which mark how much pressure you must apply when turning the screws?

Whilst you can do it without a torque wrench, its advisable to get one.
From memory its 8Nm for cam covers which is almost impossible to guess

Thanks Tunnie.
I've had cam gasket changed twice in the last couple of months by the garage and it seems it is leaking again >:(
And breathers are clean!!!
So probably lousy aftermarket parts or not enough sealant

Thanks Tunnie.

Most likely pattern gaskets which were over tightened. You don't need that much sealant.
If its been done twice recently its not been done right, get yourself some geniune gaskets & a torque wrench, maybe more expensive in the short term, but cheaper in the long :y
-
Ok thanks Tunnie.
Will probably do that next month cause this month killed me with expences ( new shocks, three weedings etc :P)
-
Darth did my gaskets a few months ago, passenger side one's had completely gone, spark plug well full of oil, and the drivers side were really brittle and about to go, he did a bloomin good job
