hi i have a r reg vauxhall omega 2.5 v6 and all of a sudden i have noticed a whirling sound coming from the drivers side engine area it starts off loud then decresses when the car has warmed up and the revs go down but never goes away does any body no what this could be
-
sounds like secondary air injection pump, you can unplug it, its not really needed.
-
sorry not good with cars how do i do that and what do i disconnect
-
either unplug the 50amp fuse that supplies it, or unplug it from the engine bay:

no that did not work as you look at the engine from the front it is coming from the left hand side of the engine
-
It could be the alternator or the aux belt tensioner. Remove the belt and run the engine briefly to see if the noise goes.
-
spray the Aux belt with a small amount of WD40 to rule out that as the noise, then listen carefully for any unit making a noise (aircon pump / alternator / tensioner)
