Hello everyone
My newly aquired MV6 is haivng its MOT on Friday and im having one problem
THE HANDBRAKE
Ive taken both back wheels off and adjusted them so so that they just start to bind. I then turned the adjuster back slightly so there was free movement in the discs, wheels back on HEY PRESTO the handbrake works EXCEPT FOR ONE THING!!!
The drivers side when the handbarek is applied works well with no faults
Passenger side works but when the car is driven the outside of the drum is hot when the drivers is cool
Any ideas?
Should i try winding it looser maybe?

prob have got the passenger side one a bit tighter thats all, just try winding it off slightly and see how it goes

Ive bought new shoes just incase
If its not that what could it be?

if not the above issue could be sticking adjuster, cant really see it being owt else cus that is there sole and only purpose is to only work when the handbrake is applied, they could be slightly seized or sticking

It could be that the pass. side isn't running as true as the driver's side :-/ so if backed off one or two clicks should be OK :).

Not being thick but where is the adjuster located? This is my first Omega so unsure

Its above the heat shield above and behind the gearbox :y.

And dont back them off if they bind slightly or are not running true, drive for a while and they will adjust to the drum profile.

Make sure the handbrake pull-off springs are present. They hook into the operating arm/cable where it enters the backplate and run bakwards to a hole in the backplate. One or both are often missing.

As MDTM says, use the guide ;)
Also don't rule out wheel bearing causing the heat...

And don't be tempted to take any shortcuts with the guide, follow it to the letter. the guy who made that guide knows his stuff :y

Well everyone i have found out what my problem, its the handbrake cable itself!
I took the car for its MOT today and she failed on the following:
01, Nearside Brake cable has restricted free movement
02, Nearside rear (main pipe) Brake pipe excessively corroded
03, Offside rear (main pipe) Brake pipe excessively corroded
04, Nearside front (to wheel) Brake pipe excessively corroded
05, Offside rear (to wheel) Brake pipe excessively corroded
06, Nearside rear Rear brake binding
07, Anti-lock braking system warning lamp does not illuminate
08, Nearside rear Tyre tread depth below requirements of 1.6mm
So as you can see im a little miffed off. Ive had a quote on the brake pipes £150/200. Is this a good price?
All in all the MOT is going to cost me £300ish. Is this worth it to save a car like this?

clean em up and grease em.....wont look corroded then ;)
tyre....gonna need replacing whatever.
ABS....could be several things....the easiest of which is the bulb

Apparently they are pretty bad
Just found 2 tyres 245/45/17's with 5mm of tread for £20 the pair! Is it okay to have wider on the back then the front?
Could it be an ABS speed sensor as the speedo is tempramental?

Hi mate
just had mine moted today but mine failed on emissions yeh the exhurst had a hole in it and also the same rear brake pipes, these are easy to do clamp the flex pipe then make up the short brake lines replace bleed the caliper, my problem is the cost to replace the bloody exhurst.... £350!!! :'( :'(

That sounds as though it could be your ABS ECU a common problem with cars circa 98. What year is yours? Do a search on the forum for ABS,speedo,heavy steering. You don't necessarily get all those and it isn't always the ECU. If it is the ECU there is a how to guide.
