Hi, just trying to sort the Omega for its Europe trip and now getting very confused.
Told it needs oil and filter to shut start up rattle, VX want £50!!!! for 5 litres of oil, £3 filter, 90p washer
See it on ebay £29 10l delivered, no time to faff about getting it elsewhere?
Advised on here to change ATF, VX want £35 fluid, £75 filter, plus gaskets
Want to swap antifreeze as going to Polish winter VX want £32.
Have got help from Welung666 (MANY THANKS) on Sunday to do jobs including sorting headlight adjusters, but will need to take all this stuff with me-
Can anyone help-
Oil-must it be VX s/s
Filter-any will do?
ATF-VX only?
Gasket-necessary?
Filter (£75) necessary-can it be swilled out?
Antifreeze-was going to empty out and refill-advice? Product?
Please advise :y

Oil filter you can use any brand name filter that fits.
Oil doesn't need to be VX any good brand semy sinth will do but will probably cost more. ( I use shell Helix)
for antifreeze use existing colour antifreeze (blue probably) since you are not going to flush the system completely.
Sorry don't know about atf cause mine is manual

Have ordered filter and sump washer, plus transmission gasket from VX for less than £20 all in.
Not ordering ATF filter, will change fluid and flush out filter-its a case of where DO you stop on an old car?!
Will buy oil, antifreeze and ATF from local factors and set myself up with a trade account or something when I meet up at weekend.
Any preferred oil, ATF, antifreeze for this car?

Best thing you can do, if you have a couple of weeks before your trip, is to spend £20 and join autobahnstormers and get a trade club card.
2.2 oil filter 9117321 is £4.53
VX semi synth, on TC, is £32.67 for 20 litres. Its a buy three/get 4 deal.
5 litres red coolant 93165162, is £10.23.
sump washer is pennies.
For autobox fluid, the Fuchs, I think, is the oil of choice. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1202469103
TC prices are plus VAT... :'(
As for autobox filters, I got mine as a set from Dave Kember (PM for telno if required) for about £35 plus postage. It included filter, large sump gasket, and small sump gasket. A garden sprayer will let you refill without too much fuss, just check the howtoo's....

2.2 Petrol Oil Filter is 93156954 and about £1.50 on TC :y

£10 for 5 litres this end mate, and its genuine 10/40 vx oil :y

Oil-must it be VX s/s
Just about any 10/40 semi synth will suffice
Filter-any will do?
It's only a bit of paper, so yes.
ATF-VX only?
Dexron III...doesn't matter who makes it.
Gasket-necessary?
Well it's not under pressure, but do you really want to mess about when both gaskets come to less than the cost of a round of drinks?
Filter (£75) necessary-can it be swilled out?
New box = > £1000
New filter is actually less than £75, but even so....you wanna take the chance if it's due?
Antifreeze-was going to empty out and refill-advice? Product?
Lots here swear by the genuine Vx "Red" stuff, truth is that any old generic crap will do.
At worst you'll have to change the generic crap every 3 years, instead of every 5 years that the Vx stuff is supposed to last.
Given the cost difference and ease of changing, it doesn't matter.

Oil, any 10w 40 ss will do but vx is def cheapest, esp with trade club, and gives less mayo in the filler cap on v6's when compared to the likes of castrol, or so they say.
Filter. Any make, but depends if you have the spin on type or the paper filter in the canister. I guess the 4 pot is usual spin on type but vx is probably cheapest either way.
Atf, dex 3. Doesnt matter who makes it. D3 is a specification, and any product marked as such is up to spec. But some use Fuchs titan 4000 i beleive. Most factors stock it, i know german and swedish do. I washed my filter out. You can use the appropriate goo in a tube i'm told. But i prefer a gaskit, saves alot of buggering about. But you will need something. They rarely come off intact ime.
Anti freeze, i prefer the halfords ready mixed stuff, purely because you dont have to mix it, just wack it in. Cant bring myself to poor tap water in the car, but thats just me.
Halfords and abs trade club card links are shown at the bottom of my post. Halfords card in my case was issued in store on the spot. Hth. :-)
