Title: Steering Assistance
Post by: vxlnut on 09 November 2009, 15:13:22
Just a general query.

When I put my mig from D to R or vice versa, the steering feels heavier (less assisted) until the gear engages.  I don't think this is anything to worry about but can someone explain why?

Is it doing any harm changing gear when the car is rolling slowly while manoevering or should it be at a complete stop?

With all gearboxes both manual and auto it is recommended to stop the vehicle before changing drive direction otherwise it will cause extra wear on the clutch(manual) or torque convertor(auto) and you dont want to be replacing them too frequently.Once or twice in error is ok just dont make a habit of rolling changes.HTH :y

If the steering seems to lose some/all assistance at low rpm, thats a tired pas pump.
