Title: Exhaust Recommendations?
Post by: pedroMV6 on 05 November 2009, 19:26:47
My exhaust has gotten a little louder tonight, so thinking about a complete replacement system for my 2000 MY 2.6 MV6 facelift.
Any recommendations, please?

BTW, bought one from buy-parts-buy (?) a couple of years ago for the Elite - total garbage, fitted where it touched (about three places!!) and would not stop bloody rattling! >:(

Put up with it for about six months before tearing it off and replacing with a Walkers. :y

Yep, just fitted an Eternal car and its pretty good, hardly any different to the VX one, and cheap

VX want over £260 inc VAT (before VAT goes back up in January).
2 mid sections - 1@ £87.27, 1@ £77.00 and single tailpipe rear box @ £62.03) trade club price.

Full retail is midsections, 1@ £139, 1@ £122, rear box @ £94 all PLUS VAT!!! :o :o :o

Is that Eternal price £120 for that lot (cat back) or just the rear box?
How well does the Eternal one fit, and is it nice and quiet?
Also, anyone got a link for them on the 'net? Google just comes up with a band on Myspace and Facefook. :-/

I wouldn't go with vauxhall tbh. When I had my 2.2 CDX it needed a new exhaust, I got a cat back exhaust on trade club, cost me £251 if I remember...that was with the 3.2 twin backbox though. The quality was rather crap, and wasn't nice and quiet like the original proper vauxhall exhaust on it. Don't go there. I didn't like the look of the vauxhall backbox as it wasn't slash cut like the original just straight cut. So bought an eternal twin backbox, the tailpipes are a little short, but looked much better. So in essence, avoid vauxhall and go with eternalcar.

Sorry, forgot link...
http://store.eternalcar.com/

They don't list 2.6 and 3.2, only 2.5 and 3.0...but it's the same and will fit. I guarantee. The 3.0 backbox fitted my 2.2 saloon.

It used to be worth going to Vx with trade as they were double walled and much better quality, not so any more  :'(

Part numbers are 17238 twin tail pipe back box, 17234 single tail pipe, centre boxes 17232 and 17233, mounting kits if you need them are 185011 for back box and 283205 X2 for the centre boxes, I think it cost me about £138 all in delivered, and it took less than a week, the nice thing about them are the centre boxes are the same kind of shape as the VX ones, if you want the tail pipe the right length you can always add a chrome or stainless tip, that’s what I did and I kept the single pipe as I didn't want to buy two tips, it looks pretty good with an oval on it.
The worst part for me was getting the bolts out of the cats, they broke so had to drill them out, no fun under a car, but with the kits I got they had nuts bolts and washers, so that was nice, I did have a bit of bother with the drivers side box as the pipe would fit very easy in the back box, a file sorted that out.
The part numbers are for a saloon

Hi,
When I was looking for system for mine, I checked with Eternalcar about system for 3.2 and they told me that their system for the 3.0 L Estate would not be suitable for the 3.2L Estate

On this information I went for genuine Vx, but would not reccommend this to anyone. Fits where it touches, and very throaty roar exhaust note.

For information, Vx list differnt part numbers for exhaust parts on 3.0 L and 3.2L  so presume there is a difference. Whether it can be got around I don't know.

Regards
Roger

I have a 2.5 mis section and 3.0 tail pipe on a 2.6 so methinks it is all interchangable.

There is NO difference in price for the twin or single tailpipes.

The facelift car has a slightly bigger bumper so the pipes will be slightly tucked under but it doesn't notice really. Stick some chrome finishers on if you are bothered.

Thanks for the input guys - I'll look at an Eternal system when I get paid in January.  :y

I think I can put up with the extra noise until then -really more of a 'moan' being an auto!

I've read this thread and looked at the site and I'm still no clearer as to what I need for my car, a 2.6 f/l estate. Loo-knee told me the exhausts were different on saloon and would not fit the estate, so where will I be able to get one for my car?
