Title: whistling sound -td

IanD noticed that there was a distinct noise from the front whilst engine was running. its now developed into a high pitch squeal when accelerating - no coolant or oil loss  :-/

That could be your Turbo - they do whistle a merry tune! ;D

had similar thing few years back and it was power steering/alternator belt  idler pulley!!! worth checking :y

if it is the pulley (ian did indicate that - but when driven the o/s seems favourite) what is the remedy re pulley ? cheers :y

It's perfectly normal for the turbo to have a whistle noise.

However, to eliminate the power steering pump being at fault, (or any other auxiliaries), remove the drive belt then run the engine.
See where you go from there.

thanks sethsmate i never thought of that.another thought iv,e done approx 41k since acquiring this car & its never had a belt. whats the thought on that. :y

Mine's done 151K on original belt over 13+ years!
