Title: Brake upgrades
Post by: richardsmv6 on 10 November 2009, 22:44:48
This has probably been done before, but can anyone recommend a brake disc and pad upgrade for an MV6?

Richard's car will/should have proper solid discs at the back, vented came much later.  :y

Unless you intend to drive it like you just stole it, OE is more than good enough.

perhaps I need new discs on the back? Have got drilled and grooved on the front with OE pads but something just don't seem right?

I think you'll find most of us have never had a problem with the discs Vauxhall supplied!  ;) ;) ;)

...........whatever you do dont used Greenstuffpads. Omegas are too heavy.
My first change was to EBC Discs and Redstuff (by HiSpec at Dartford). Garbage, utter garbage.
I currently run Ferodo Fast Road pads with Courtney grooved Discs (front and  rear) which I have no complaints about at all.

As has been mentioned already (and in many, many previous threads) OE are more than sufficient. Entirely your choice/preference and of course, budget.

Big, two part discs with six piston callipers (is that the right terminolgy? :-?) can be fitted to the front wheels for about £1k - £1.5k (red dot, Willwood, AP Racing can ,but not unfortunately Tar Ox or Brembo (not Omega specific anyway)) and you've got to have fairly big wheels to get it all behind in the first place.

It's all personal choice I guess!

Good luck and keep us all informed! :y :y :y

Put GM pads and discs on mine 2 years ago, still holding up very well. Stops better than some small hatches!

Tad squeeky at times, but not touched them in 2 years, i really should flush the fluid and copper slip the edges.

Personally my mv6 has the best brakes out of all the cars i have ever owned, and some have had modified larger brakes, but still finds it stops on a penny, even from speed. :y

Ohhh, whats wrong with that?

Obviously don't put it on the section which makes contact with the disc  ::) But i put it on the edges of the pad, where it touches the caliper.

;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D Andy B you do make me laugh.

Just to clarify. As i recall, the debate related to the use of copper slip/grease on the slider pins. Something i think we managed agree in the end was not a good idea?
However i went further to suggest, apply it to the pad if you wish, might stop a squeak for a week or so, but anymore than that, in my experience, its a complete waste of time as an anti squeal solution. Purely because it just squidges out due the the pressures involved.

Aside from that, i hope Mr B does not feel toooo shouted at? BLESS HIM! ;D
