Title: Hard ride after fitting new tyres
Post by: Rockfordk on 12 November 2009, 16:16:03
I recently had to have a new front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter fitted, and after leaving the car with the garage to do the work, I received the usual call regarding the two rear tyres being at their limit. Being a bit short of time I agreed to two new ones being fitted, but opted for two new,but cheap, tyres as I had the hefty exhaust bill to pay for. Previously there had been Pirelli's on.
Since I have had the car back, the ride seems different. You feel every small bump you go over, and I don't feel that safe! The car seems to wander! Could this be down to the type of tyres fitted?

Have you checked the pressure in the tyres? Is it the same as you used in the previous tyres?

I must admit I have not checked the pressures. I have assumed they would have done them correctly. I will give that a check. It is such a difference to what it was before

I agree it sounds like there is far to much pressure in the tyres.

oooooooooooo yeah !  Wrong tyre pressures can make one hell of a difference to the ride...tis rather amazing.

I upped the pressure in my tyres in order to get the tin tent away for the winter.

Interesting drive to the 'van, fine whilst towing, interesting drive (very very hard) back and the back end of the car best described as 'unsettled'.   ;)

You can vary the pressures to bias towards ride or handling depending on your preference but bear in mind this will affect wear patterns and could affect your insurance in the event of an incident.
Facelift ride is harder than pre facelift also. I'm sure an expert on here can tell me why  :)

I agree with all the comments about tyre pressures however different tyres do behave differently
and not all tyres are correct for all cars

So what tyres have been fitted? (& what pressures?)
