As per the title, under half or full throttle I get a bad vibration in the car, I think(and hope) that it is the left rear shock as I think it is done, the car leans a tad to the left as well, I don't think it's the prop as I would imangine it would happen all the time?
Oh the gearbox and diff were changed before I got the car, previous owner had a welded diff and had lost second gear as a result of his sideways antics!!
Anyone help?

would check left rear shock first replace them, if has gone, replace and see if its ok after. :y
-
Shock absorbers (and any other suspension components) should ONLY and ALWAYS be replaced in pairs. So a "suck it and see" approach is going to get expensive.
Get the things checked PROPERLY by someone who knows what they are doing.
-
I always replace suspension and brakes in pairs, so no worries there, just trying to see what other folk may think could be the problem?
I guess one could say that I am being lazy and want a quick fix or someone else to say "I had that problem once and it was the. . . . . ."
I have just been out under her, checked the bolts where all tight on the diff, prop and half shafts, which most of them seemed to be, the diff to crossmember bolts both came another 1/4 turn fairly easily at the recomended 90nm.
What I did find, that I have to question is about 5mm horizontal movement on the diff through the diff to crossmember bushes, and about 2-3mm vertical movement on the center bearing. I'm assuming that the center bearing movement is fine and within tolerance, but the diff to crossmember bushings have me slightly worried?
-
If it really is only 2nd and 3rd gear then it would have to be the gearbox (but that does seem a little implausible).
Some more ideas to ponder:
- crunchy CV joints on the drive shafts?
- crunchy CV joints /intermediate bearing / splines on prop shaft?
- bent prop shaft?
- damaged/bent road wheel?
- soft bushes allowing metal to metal contact under hard acceleration? (on diff, trailing arms or subframes.)
- Odd tyre wear pattern?

easy test for drive shaft, pack it with grease and see if it gose ok if dose it is that part, only lasts for a cup of hours but save you a lot in findinf shaft fault.
-
It seems to be happening around 2500 - 3000 rpm on the engine. If it was the prop or shaft would it not happen in all gears?
What part of the shaft am I pack or do you mean the cv joint?
-
Sounds more like a miss fire to me.
-
dose your EML come on when it dose that? then go off when you slow down,?
cv is the big black rubbers on the dif and wheel shaft they in side.
-
EML is on all the time, but I think that is due to it being changed from a auto to a manual(before my ownership), defo not a missfire as that is a different feeling and there is plenty of power there, plus it should happen in all gears not just 2nd & 3rd. It feels like it is coming from middle/rear of the car, possibly the left rear but now I'm not so sure as it sometimes feels like it is in the middle of the car, it defo feels like it is suspension or drivetrain related

Ok gf in the car with me, she says she feels it on her right bum cheek and I feel it on my left bum cheek, so I wreckon it's in the middle of the car, I'm thinking the center prop shaft bearing?

Guessing bent propshaft if it smooths out again at higher speed.
How much abuse did the car get while drifting?
I have known Land Rovers to shear prop shafts if given enough abuse in a low ratio. Maybe your prop is twisted or the centre CV joint damaged.
-
It was given enough abuse to loose second gear to a bent selector, plus the car was lowered so much that previous owner had the back box ripped of ane the centre pipe had a whopping great hole in it
-
i would say that ther is a problem with the gears in the gear box if it has had that done to it, can make the prop feel like that ( abuse to loose second gear to a bent selector) and EML light is on as the auto box ecu is still on and sending info that the gear box is not moving. being that low to ground would damage the gear box, look for impacked marks on the gear box, also the metal surports for the gear box that may be twisted, you may have a dud as well, twisted sub frame from sleeping police men, front wheel drive cars are ok to be lowerd but when its rear drive it should still be a bit high at back , as front wheel drives have loads of space at rear and these dont.
-
Part of the deal with me getting the car was to change the gearbox and the diff, seen him finish changing the box, seen the diff in the boot of another car, but checked it when I got the car and it was changed ok. The exhaust has been replaced as well.
The car is now sitting on standard saloon springs which has raised the back up, but not up to standard hieght. Like I said, I have checked the diff mount bolts, the prop to diff bolts, the drive shaft bolts, the only thing is ihavent checked the gearbox mounts or prop to gearbox bolts, so this may be another thing for me to do.
-
ok easy way to test propshaft, get a piece of wire and a weight, rap round the propshaft leving weight to dangle, have one person turn one wheel and one person under the car and look for it moving side to side up and down, if juders a bit put some grease on it so it can slip easy, should be able to test it that way as you said it on stands, allso listen out for clicking as that could be the problem area. :y

Your a star!!! will have to put the heater on in the garage at lunch break to get it warmed uup for this evening LOL!!

Candyman got me sorted, either it was a bent prop or the prop had been split and not lined up correctly when refitted, new prop in and it drives like a dream.
Not sure if it is my imagintaion but it even feels faster or mor responsive!!
