original fault with auto box stuck in safe mode and told by gearbox company its not electrical its the box its split a drum,so i bought another box fit it today and in d its the same its not selecting 1st gear(the old box id no 1st at all)i can manually go through the gears so in my mind ive sorted the box out.nearby garage has a snap on solus or solis machine it came up with torque control signal but then thats not tech 2 is it so im now utterly f@@ked off has anyone any ideas i just think its srange how it works manually but not in d cheers daz :-[

Have you tried cleaning the contacts? I would be dubious of it not being selector without cleaning or replacing this first
-
i sprayed all plug ports before fitting, selection all corresponds with lights and if i manually change gears its ok,put it in neutral and checked switch slots with welding rod that was ok.could it be the switch i did take switch off old box for a spare is it worth trying on new box or the fact i can manually change gears say that would be a waste of time
-
sorry guffer my last post made out like i was saying your idea was a waste of time what i meant was,is it a waste of time trying old switch or does anyone know of any other reason or if theyve had same problem with a switch
-
if the selector lights and gears are correct when changing and driving manualy....would think the selector switch is ok and all gears are now fine
have the codes been cleared since the new box has been fitted? is it still in limp mode? (drives in 3rd only.) not sure if the car would see the fault is fixed and come out of limp mode on its own or needs to be cleared via tech 2 to return to normal in "D" .... one for the tech2 owners on here i guess :-/
I would get it in tech2 before going further if possible, you need to know what direction go with this first imho...snap on is ok as a generic reader but has been known to come up with differant codes for the same fault from what i gather, esp. manufacturer spicific codes, its no comparison to tech2. Bit like comparing a candle to a flood light..... :(
-
ps, snap on should be able to clear gear box codes, exactly what codes did it show?
-
hi i think it was 1740 the guy doin it was mega busy and rushing so i didnt see much and he said if i can remember rightly after a good drink last night torque control signal
-
transmission codes start 07** see here http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/
Unless its manufacturer specific of course.
Would be nice to get it on tech 2 with a member on here but given your location i guess the nearest to you is Mark in Nottingham.

rustym95 did post on here when he bought his tech2. The price seemed far too good to be true though so some people doubted whether it was the genuine article....

ive had a pm from rustym95 from rotherham who says he has tech 2
Its not a proper Tech2 - its one of the cheapos - no good for 2.2s.

If it's an "My Naff Code Reader" it will read the engine & gearbox ecus on the 2.2, we did one with mine a couple of weeks ago.

just to let you all know it will do all from 1994 to 2008 and some of 2009 vauxhalls. (updated) :y
