Title: engine bay jet wash

hi
can anyone tell me the best way of cleaning the engine bay without damaging anything , was thinking jet wash but would hate to damage anything electrical .

Don't even think of jet washing it  :o

Get a rag, and some WD40!

This is a good question :y :y :y.

I know in the past we used to have engine bays steam cleaned, but in these days of high tech electronics I am sure it is not a good idea.

In anycase an engine bay kept a bit oily in my experience keeps the rust at bay! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Electrical items will be fine, but, its the alternator and aircon bearings that are the bigger worry.

just seen some nice clean engine bays and wish mine was the same was told by local garage to get some engine cleaner brush it on then jet wash off just wanted to check first

bit of elbow grease and WD40, and it should come up a treat. Blasting it under high presure is not going to any good.

Take a dirty car body work, if you jet wash it, the dirt is still there. Need to scrub it off first  :y

hi, recently had cam cover gaskets replaced & have oil down the block & was thinking of a steam clean. glad i read this first. let it burn off?? :-/

No, cover the key components up (e.g. alternator, spark plug leads and aircon pump), dowse in traffic film remover and blast away.

The engine electrics dont give a monkeys, they spend most of thier life covered in wet salty spray.

I have always jet washed under the bonnet on all my cars but as Marks DTM says you shouldnt aim directly onto alternator etc, i always leave the car running then go on a run after to dry off, i also apply wd to electrical areas before and after. But as people are quite rightly saying you do run the risk of damage to cetain areas.

I totally agree with mark dtm,as i have always jet washed my engines.Soak it in cheap engine degreaser from the pound shop and blast away leaving the engine running,just dont spray the degreaser on while the engine is hot,as it will dry white,you wont beleive the difference mate,who wants to look at an oily engine. ::) :y

Have jet washed engines before, mind alternator as Mark says and it'll be ok  :y
