Title: cam cover black goo and breather box gasket.
Post by: feeutfo on 17 November 2009, 07:51:48
going to do my cam covers this weekend.

I have the gaskets and o rings but the parts man tells me the sealent for the corners is the same stuff as for the oil cooler cover plate. I have noticed the part number in the guide, but i thought the two where very different. Black goo for cam covers, grey goo for oil cooler plate?

Just wanted to make sure is all. I think i used a loctite product from halfords last time?

I also thought i would have a dig around in breather box and remove it. I imagine access will be easier with the inlet removed etc? But question is does it have a gasket or sealent. I imagine gasket? I'll get one if so.

Cheers

Chris. :-)

The cam cover gaskets DO NOT use the same sealent as the oil cooler plate.

The breather box to block does use the oil cooler plate sealent.

thanks guys, i'll quote the part number in the guide at them and leave it at that i think.

I have same grey goo left over but i think its out of date. I take it its ok to use if its not dried out (which it may well have done by now.) ?

If its not dry it will be fine (they do often go to a hard amorphous lump!)
