Ok, well we need a few more details to give a rough idea on price, as you can imagine it could vary greatly. What age is it? 1999 on a 'V', saloon or estate. What specification, GLS, CD, CDX?
I think the 2.0 produces 132 BHP or so, I know the 2.2 is 144 but unsure of the 2.0. It's not a great deal of power to shift a fairly large car. And especially being an auto. Once we've got some more details on the car you're going to be looking at, we can give you ideas of the most common faults etc etc.
One thing you MUST look at, is when the cambelt was last changed. It MUST be changed every 4 years or 40k miles without fail. If it fails your engine will be effectively destroyed.

2.0 GLS is base model and some will say underpowered for the weight of the car, especially with the auto box.
As joshwyatt says, check re cambelt and waterpump being done recently. Mileage can be checked for free on http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/ if you have the latest MOT certificate number. Omegas clock easily and hide this well!
I think there are a few members near you-ask if one will look at it for you??
Good luck and welcome :y

It's due a cambelt change very soon then, unless it's just been done. Make sure you budget for that. What year is it? Is it the facelift model? If it is then it's not a bad price.
-
its a (W) olate and ad says the belt was done in 07, how much would i be looking at to get the belts done?

It must be facelift then and if belts have been done, sounds right sort of money :y

"It MUST be changed every 4 years or 40k miles without fail"
This bit worries me though,
How much to get them done and if its a facelift? :-? do they still need doing this often?

All Omegas need this, not just the facelift-nothing to be worried about!! If done in 2007, will next need in 2011 if not doing more than I guess 25k miles before then.
A club member will help do it, parts are cheap enough :y

sorry if i come across as sounding stupid here
but surly if they need doing every 40k miles itll need doing in 1k miles :-?
-
You need to check what the mileage was when it was done. If it was done in 07, it could have only had 40k miles on it and done 39k miles until now. It'd only cost £130 or so to get the belt done. But you also must have the tensioners and pulleys done at the same time. It's no good just replacing the belt on it's own. Ask the seller what the mileage was when it was done. If it hasn't done 40k miles since replacement in 2007, then you're ok until it's 40k miles later or 4 years later from when it was done.

You are right-but the interval is 40k or 4 years-so first check when it was last done-it is likely to have been done at 8 years-not on the mileage! I'm guessing so.
So count the next needed change as 40k or 4 years from the last one :y

1999 car, last done 2007- 8 years!! Check mileage...

ok thats the first thing ill ask is if they know the milage when it was done. anything else i need to know?

On paper sounds ok, if cambelt been done in 07 as they say.
Bear in mind Omegas are cheap anyway and there are loads about, so no need to rush in if not 100% happy.
Choice is down to what you personally want, some want cheaper costs, some want power and spec.
I have a facelift 2.2 auto and have done a lot of work on it, which with most other cars would have not been worth it.
But with OOF and helpful members, I have turned around a tired 100k car into a very good one, fairly cheaply.
FYI the consensus seems to be that the best balance of performance and economy is a 2.5 V6 manual. The 2.0 is a bit underpowered (and many say the 2.2 is too).
Check specs before buying-the GLS is the basic car and you will find a nice CDX for not much more.
Are you familiar with the obvious things to look at on any car, like oil/water etc?

unfortunatly i have a week as my primera has died and im limited to the bus till payday next weekend, and getting up at half 6 for hour and a half of public transport for a journey that takes me 20mins in a car :( getting paid monthly doesnt help i suppose, im sort of torn between the omega and the same trader has a 95 BMW 530i which looks tidy, but doubt i can afford the insurance on the 3 litre BMW
-
i would opt for the omega parts are cheaper and i believe its gives a better ride. after all if you like the omega you can always look for a "proper" v6 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;Done later
-
yea, well ive contacted Kate about the one her neighbour is selling and a bit more info on it, so hopefully ill have an omega by end of next weekend

If money is tight, buy the Omega.
I have really enjoyed getting mine sorted through this site too :y

If it's the Primera your talking about in you sig then they must have changed dramatically.
I owned four previously to owning an Omega, they were absolutely 100% reliable, only ever had the bonnet open to check the levels on any of them.
Sold the last one an estate, to a work mate. He come complaining to me about two years after I'd sold it to him that he'd had to replace a brake light bulb!
Only changed to Omegas because of the need to get an heavier towcar.
